Second day of the Nativity of our Lord at the Church of All Russian Saints, Croydon

Repose of Hieromonk Panteleimon‏ (Lake)

Please be advised that Hieromonk Panteleimon (Lake) reposed in the Lord yesterday morning at 8.00am (local time, West Timor, Indonesia). Hieromonk Panteleimon was a cleric of the Indonesian Deanery (Indonesian Orthodox Church) of the Australia and New Zealand Diocese.

He will be buried Monday, June 20 in his home village in Nilulat-Kefamenanu – 230 km East of Kupangand. We ask you to pray for the soul of the newly departed Hieromonk Panteleimon.

A report from Indonesia on the distribution of aid donated by parishes, clergy and parishioners of the Sydney, Australia and New Zealand Diocese for the victims of the 2010 Mt Merapi volcano eruption.

The active volcano Mount Merapi on the Indonesian island of Java erupted on the 25th of October, 2010. It spewed hot gases and ash as far as 5,000 meters into the atmosphere, wreaking havoc on surrounding villages and farms, and disrupting air travel. Many hundreds of people were killed, and at least 350,000 fled their homes, and many of these cannot yet return because of the danger of further eruptions. (more…)

Christ is Born! Glorify Him!

The Feast of the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ was well attended at Sydney’s only ROCOR congregation that worships in English. Just over 70 adults and children filled the old monastery Church of All Saints at Kentlyn to celebrate the Feast, with some travelling from as far as Bowral, in the Southern Highlands, Faulconbridge in the Blue Mountains, Penrith in Sydney’s west, inner city St Peters and the Sutherland Shire to the east.

The Liturgy was celebrated by Hieromonk Joachim, superior of St John the Baptist Skete, Kentlyn, who was joined in the altar by visiting priest from the Indonesian Orthodox Church (GOI), Father Dionysios Surya Halim, Protodeacon Christopher Henderson and Protodeacon Constantine Tzortzis. (more…)

Friends of Indonesia-Australia was established in July 2010 to aid the priests and parishes of the Indonesian Orthodox Church (Gereja Orthodox Indonesia – GOI) who make up the Indonesian Deanery of  ROCOR’s Australian and New Zealand Diocese.

Metropolitan Hilarion makes pastoral visitation to the Asian parishes of the Diocese

On Monday the 22nd of June, His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion departed from Sydney’s Kingsford Smith Airport to begin an eight day visitation of the parishes in South Korea and Indonesia that are under the canonical protection of the Australian & New Zealand Diocese.

His first destination was Seoul, capital of South Korea where he was met by Deacon Father Paul Kang, who drove the Metropolitan to Holy Trinity Skete in the rural seaside village of Yonghwa.

On Tuesday the 23rd of June, His Eminence served the Divine Liturgy in the Skete’s Church of St Anna. The Head of the Korean Orthodox Mission, Father Justin Kang and his wife Matushka Helen, have both felt for a long time the call to the monastic life. Thus, during the Liturgy Father Justin Kang was tonsured to the small schema with the new name of John – Johan in Korean – in honour of St John of Kronstadt and will be based at Holy Trinity Skete. Matushka Helen Kang was tonsured into the small schema with the new name of Elizabeth in honour of the New Martyr Grand Duchess Elizabeth of Russia. Mother Elizabeth is attached to St Helen’s Chapel in the village of Chanjho. (more…)
