: Russian Orthodox life in the Hornsby region, NSW

In recent years, a great many young Russian families have settled in the Hornsby Shire on Sydney’s northern fringe.  Forging strongs friendships amongst themselves, these families have also gravitated towards the parish of Saint Panteleimon in Gosford, becoming active there in parish life.

The young parents there have for some time considered the possibility of a Russian language school in the Hornsby region.  Their hopes became reality when, with the blessing of Metropolitan Hilarion, the Saint Seraphim Russian Community School commenced lessons at Mount Colah Public School on Sunday 13 November 2011.  Prior to classes beginning, Hornsby mayor Nick Berman cut the ribbon with representatives from both Russian (“Edinenie”) and English (“Bush Telegraph”) newspapers in attendance. : Announcement – Holy Kursk-Root Icon in Hornsby, Newcastle and Gosford – 19 November 2011

On Saturday 19 November 2011 the wonder-working Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God (Курская-Коренная икона Божией Матери «Знамение»), the Protectress of the Russian Diaspora, will visit Hornsby, Newcastle and Gosford. This icon, dating back to at least 1295, is one of the great holy icons of the Russian Orthodox Church. (more…)

: Establishment of Saint Seraphim Community Russian School, Hornsby

Dear friends,

An energetic group of young Russian Orthodox parents from the Hornsby area, members of our Gosford parish, have with the blessing of Metropolitan Hilarion recently established the Saint Seraphim Community Russian School.  Classes will begin this coming Sunday, November 13, at Mount Colah Public School. : Saint Panteleimon Church Feast Day, Gosford

In accordance with parish custom, the main services in honour of the Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon, were transferred to the Saturday immediately following his commemoration. On the evening of Friday 12 August All-night Vigil was served. In addition to the rector, Father James Carles, four visiting clergymen were present: Archpriest George Lapardin, Priest Alexander Korjenewski (Carlton), Priest Simon Nekipelov (Strathfield), and Protodeacon Alexander Kotlaroff (Strathfield). Afterwards, the clergy and some of the faithful stayed behind for a festive supper. (more…)
