The 5th Choral Music Conference will be held at the Holy Protection Church (Cabramatta) and the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul (Strathfield) from Wednesday 2nd to Sunday 6th July, 2008. The conference coincides with the 25th Anniversary of the restoration of Saint Daniel’s Monastery in Moscow. This year the choir from Saint Daniel’s Monastery will be in Australia at the time of the conference and will be in attendance at divine services. (more…)

THE CHOIR OF DANILOV MONASTERY
For the First time in Australia – Direct from Moscow

After acclaimed performances throughout Europe and the US, the celebrated choir from the ancient Danilov Monastery will launch an unprecedented Australian Good Will Tour this July. The Choir of Danilov Monastery will make its Australian debut in a one-afternoon only engagement at St James’ Anglican Church (King Street, Sydney CBD) on Sunday, July 6th  at 3:00 p.m. Under the direction of Artistic Director and Conductor Georgy Safonov, the 12-man a cappella chamber choir will offer a program of Byzantine and Russian chants, folk songs, patriotic songs and Russian romances.

Following the Sydney engagement, the choir will be performing in Melbourne at All Saints Anglican Church St Kilda (cnr Chapel Street and Dandenong Road East St Kilda) on Thursday 10th of July at 8pm.

The Choir is undertaking this tour of Australia in celebration of the reunification of the Russian Orthodox Church with the Russian Orthodox Church outside of Russia, the enthronement of Archbishop Hilarion (Kapral) of Sydney, Australia and New Zealand as the Metropolitan and First Hierarch of Orthodox Church Outside of Russia and as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the restoration of Danilov Monastery. On Tuesday evening, June 3rd, Metropolitan Hilarion prayed at Vespers for the Apodosis (leave-taking) of Pascha at the Nativity of the Holy Mother of God parish in Mahopac, NY. The Metropolitan’s secretary, Archpriest Michael Boikov, served and Priests Ilya Gun and Alexander Botschagow prayed in the Church. (more…)

of the martyrdom on July 4/17, 1918 of Tsar Nicholas II, his family and their faithful servants at Ekaterinburg and the martyrdom the next day July 5/18, 1918 of the Grand Duchess Elizabeth and her companions at Alapaeyevsk.

With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion,
the Diocese of Australia and New Zealand is appealing to its youth to participate in an essay competition about the Royal Martyrs. (more…)

12 мая 2008 года архиепископ Сиднейский и Австралийско-Новозеландский Иларион, избранный Архиерейским Собором Русской Зарубежной Церкви ее Первоиерархом, направил Святейшему Патриарху Московскому и всея Руси Алексию Акт Архиерейского Собора об избрании Первоиерарха Русской Зарубежной Церкви и прошение, в котором, в частности, говорится:

«Почтительнейше направляю Вашему Святейшеству Акт о состоявшемся избрании моего недостоинства Первоиерархом Русской Зарубежной Церкви. В соответствии с Актом о каноническом общении, испрашиваю Вашего Первосвятительского благословения и ходатайствую об утверждении Вашим Святейшеством и Священным Синодом Московского Патриархата сего избрания, совершенного Архиерейским Собором Русской Православной Церкви за границей». 12 мая в 12 часов дня в Знаменском синодальном соборе в Нью-Йорке состоялось избрание архиепископа Сиднейского и Австралийско-Новозеландского Илариона Первоиерархом Русской Зарубежной Церкви с возведением в сан митрополита. В соответствии с Актом о каноническом общении, подписанном 17 мая 2007 г., Архиерейский Собор направит акт о состоявшемся избрании, составленный Счетной комиссией, Святейшему Патриарху Московскому и всея Руси Алексию, с ходатайством со стороны нареченного Первоиерарха о благословении на восприятие должностей, возложенных на него собратьями-архипастырями, и об утверждении своего избрания Священным Синодом Московского Патриархата.
