: All-night vigil, akathist and liturgy in honour of St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco at the Our Lady of Kazan convent, Fri. 3/7-Sat. 4/7/09

On July 2, 1966 (new calendar) the great hierarch, of universal significance, St. John (Maximovich) passed away. This year marks the 15th anniversary of his glorification by the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad (ROCOR). In almost all the churches of ROCOR (and now also in the churches of the Moscow Patriarchate) prayful services were conducted on the occasion of this remarkable date.

At the Our Lady of Kazan convent, Kentlin (near the city of Sydney), the service began at 9.30pm with the Vigil, during which the Akathist to St. John was sung, and culminated with the Divine Liturgy. The serving clergy included: archpriest Michael Boikov, hieromonk Joachim (Ross) and protodeacon Basil Hadarin. The choir was coonducted by the mother superior of the holy monastery – Abbess Maria (Miros). Almost all those who prayfully held vigil throughtout the entire service partook of the communion of the Holy Mysteries of Christ.
