From 11-14 July, we received Metropolitan Jonah (Paffhausen), who was in Australia lecturing at the Residential School for the Sts Cyril and Methodius Orthodox Institute. In 2019, we celebrate 10 years since our transfer into the ROCOR Diocese of Australia and New Zealand, which we remember was done at the hand of Metropolitan Jonah while he was primate of the Orthodox Church in America. Therefore, it was with great joy that we were able to celebrate this with his presence.

Holy Annunciation Orthodox Church, Brisbane, was pleased to welcome His Grace, Bishop George of Canberra, to preside at our patronal feastday. On the eve of the feast, after a discussion with some of the youth of our parishes, His Grace arrived at Holy Annunciation. He was greeted by the clergy of our parish, together with clergy from our Deanery, and the Great Vigil service was celebrated.
The next day, the Lenten Hours and Typika were served. After this, Bp George was greeted on his arrival, was vested, and proceeded to celebrate the Hierarchal Vesperal Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom – the first Liturgy that His Grace had served at our parish – followed by a cross-procession. On 6-7 April, 2015, we were blessed to welcome His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion, our First Hierarch and Diocesan Bishop, to officiate at the celebration of the patronal (parish) feastday of the Holy Annunciation parish in Brisbane, which is the only full-time English language parish in the city of Brisbane.
On the eve of the feast, His Eminence celebrated the Great Vigil with Litia in the assistance of visiting clergy and lay people from all of the Russian Orthodox parishes of Brisbane. (more…)
