On Saturday, 4th February 2023, His Grace Bishop George of Sydney Australia & New Zealand arrived at the Holy Trinity parish located at the Huon district in Tasmania which is approximately one hour drive from Hobart.
For many years the rector Fr George Morozoff conducted services in his home, on the outskirts of Hobart. It was when his father died 17 years ago, he came up with the idea to build a church on a 200-acre property belonging to his parents. Upon receiving a blessing from Metropolitan Hilarion, Fr George commenced building the church which took approximately 13 years. The church was named after the Holy Trinity as Fr George received the blessing to commence the building on the feast of the Holy Trinity. (more…)

On 18th and 19th of January 2023, the great feast of Theophany, His Grace Bishop George of Sydney, Australia and New Zealand celebrated the divine services at Sts Peter and Paul Cathedral, Strathfield. Co-served with His Grace were the cathedral clergy. Following the Divine Liturgy, Bishop George served the Great Blessing of the Waters.

Издалека видна в Стратфилде белая колокольня Петропавловского кафедрального собора. Этот главный храм Русской Православной Церкви Зарубежом в Сиднее был освящен еще в 1953 году, семьдесят лет назад. В этом, 2023 году, в канун Рождества и рано утром 7 января в Сиднее прошли обновляющие природу дожди. Сочные листья заблестели многими оттенками зеленого цвета, цветы в палисадниках выглядели особенно ярко, промытые дождем тихие улочки, ведущие к собору, смотрелись празднично. Когда на литургию в день Рождества Христова собирались сотни людей нашей общины, дождь закончился, и небо просветлело, как будто оберегая прихожан. (more…)

During the communion of clergy, the Epistle of His Eminence, Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America and New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad was read. (more…)

Praying, Learning, Growing Together: 2022 Syezd Youth ConferenceAn annual Diocesan event, 2022 saw our Syezd Youth Conference hosted in Brisbane. Months of preparation had produced a schedule that equally prioritised praying together, learning together, and growing together. We were especially overjoyed to welcome our brothers and sisters in Christ from three other states of Australia, who were able to join us in person; we were likewise delighted to welcome our brothers and sisters in Christ from New Zealand, along with others from other parts of Queensland and Australia, who joined us over Zoom for lectures and panel discussions.

On Saturday, 26 November 2022, Holy Annunciation Orthodox Church, Brisbane, was privileged to host His Grace, the Right Reverend George, Bishop of Sydney, Australia and New Zealand. Approaching the church, he was greeted by the altar servers, and blessed two to wear the cassock and enter the church. He was then welcomed by Mr Katavic, Warden, who gave a customary greeting of bread and salt, while the choir, led by Mrs Sams, sang ‘From the Rising…’.

It was quite a cool morning and the lesser blessing of water was held outside at 8am presided over by the rector Archpriest Boris Ignatievsky.
The greeting of his Grace Bishop George of Sydney Australia and New Zealand was at 9am followed by a heartfelt and uplifting liturgy.
It was wonderful to concelebrate the liturgy with priests from other parishes in the diocese. Those in attendance were Archpriest Nikita Chemodakov Dean of New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory rector, Saint Nicholas Church Fairfield, Archpriest Nikola Belich of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Archpriest Boris Ignatievsky rector, Archpriest Alexander Korjenevski rector, Saint George Church Carlton, Abbot Dorofei (Urusov) Cleric of Our Lady of Kazan Convent Kentlyn, Archpriest Dionisy Halim rector, Our Lady’s Dormition Church Wollongong and protodeacon Vasily Konstantinidis parish deacon.

On Monday, 26 September 2022, the eve of the feast of The Exaltation of the Life-Giving Cross, His Grace George, Bishop of Sydney Australia and New Zealand celebrated the All-night vigil at Sts Peter and Paul’s Cathedral, Strathfield. Co-serving with His Grace were the cathedral clergy.
During the Great Doxology, Bishop George wearing all vestments carried the Cross to the middle of the church and the rite of the Exaltation of the Cross was served.
The rite of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross was established in Jerusalem shortly after the finding of the Cross by Saint Helena, the mother of Emperor Constantine in memory of that event and also the restoration of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. (more…)
